A Handmade Holiday Gift Guide: Nature-Inspired Earrings & Necklaces

The holiday season is the busiest time of year for making handmade jewelry, but is also the most exciting time of year, knowing that my creations are being gifted to loved ones and friends. Long before I set up my home studio here in New Berlin, PA, I was stringing beads as a teenager. That early spark eventually led me to metalsmithing, thanks to a high school teacher who encouraged me to take a chance on something new. Years of passion and learning new skills has transformed my work from simply being jewelry to being a piece of art that you can wear.

Those roots still shape everything I make today. My inspiration comes from the organic shapes and textures of nature. From looking up at the stars to seeing a small flower grow in the yard. My workbench is scattered with ideas, inspiration and works in process. My designs are best when they’re not forced, sometimes it feels like magic transforming a concept from my mind to something tangible that I can hold in completing a new piece of jewelry is rewarding each and every time.

As you’re searching for meaningful holiday gifts this season, I wanted to share a few of my favorite pieces—earrings and necklaces that carry that feeling of nature with them.

Necklaces: Carry a Small Piece of the Outdoors With You

Necklaces have always felt like masterpieces to me. Most of my designs are bold yet elegant. A necklace can be the focal point of an outfit. It can make a statement. It can reflect your personality.

Copper Leaves Necklace

This necklace is full of movement and warmth. Vines weave and twist elegantly in the natural world, and this copper leaf necklace reflects that simple flowing pattern and the elegance of the leaves. That same feeling comes through in this design. Each leaf is hand-formed in a pitch bowl, hammered to bring out its organic character then soldered to a twisting vine that hangs from a simple copper chain. If you’re looking for a holiday gift for someone who loves long walks, woodland trails, or earthy tones, this one is a thoughtful choice.

Ginkgo Leaf Necklace

The ginkgo tree has such a strong and ancient presence. They represent resilience and hope, which feels fitting for the season. My ginkgo leaf necklace design is simple, lightweight, and easy to wear every day. It’s the perfect bold necklace to layer with a cozy sweater. Inspired from my days at Cedar Crest College where ginkgo trees grace the Campus and are captured in the school emblem. Whenever I am designing a piece with a ginkgo leaf, it brings me back to my first years of metalsmithing when creativity was bursting at the bench and new skills were learned every day. It’s a meaningful pendant for someone who appreciates symbolic gifts or soft botanical shapes.

Earrings: Light, Detailed, and Made to Be Worn Often

Earrings are one of my favorite things to make, because earrings are such a fun way to show off your personality. Each pair is hand-formed, soldered, shaped, and finished by me at my workbench. Nothing is mass-produced, so every pair has its own subtle variations.

Copper Fern Hoops

These hoops are inspired by the ferns that crowd the shady side of my home. I’ve been slowly transforming that space into a more natural, low-maintenance landscape, and the shapes of those fronds show up again and again in my sketches. The hoops are about an inch in diameter, textured to highlight the fern pattern, and finished with sterling silver ear wires.

Copper Leaves Earrings

These copper leaf earrings echo the same look as the Copper Leaves Necklace, but in a smaller silhouette. They’re lightweight and easy to pair with almost anything. The warmth of the copper and the hand-hammered texture make them a beautiful everyday piece.

Teardrop Earrings

For those who love a clean, classic shape, the teardrop earring design is always a favorite. I keep the lines simple and let the metal do the talking. They’re versatile and make a lovely gift for someone who prefers understated, timeless jewelry.

Why Handmade Jewelry Makes a Meaningful Holiday Gift

When you choose handmade jewelry, you’re giving more than a pretty piece to unwrap. You’re giving hours at the workbench, the hum of a saw against metal, the warmth of the torch, and the small marks of the human hand. You’re choosing something created with intention rather than produced by machines.

Every piece in my shop is made start to finish by me, right here in my New Berlin home studio. I cut every shape, solder every joint, hammer every texture. And I love sharing that with the people who wear my pieces.

So whether you’re shopping for a nature lover, someone who appreciates artisan craftsmanship, or someone who simply enjoys jewelry that feels grounded and meaningful, I hope these earrings and necklaces add a little warmth to your holiday season.
