Description

I drew the bat as one continuous line, then hand pierced it from copper sheet with a jeweler’s saw. The copper line is layered over a sheet of nickel, so the shape of the bat stands out. The branch is made from wire, and the bat hangs from it and moves a little when you do.

They dangle from sterling silver ear wires.

I love bats, and October is Bat Appreciation Month, so it felt like the right time to make these. Bats do a lot of quiet work. A single bat can eat hundreds of insects in one night, which helps keep mosquitoes and crop pests in check. In other parts of the world, bats pollinate flowers and spread seeds that grow new trees. Here in Pennsylvania, many of our bats have struggled with white-nose syndrome, so they could use some extra love.

Wear them on a fall walk or out to dinner. Either way, you’re carrying a little piece of the night woods with you.

Because they’re handmade, each pair will be a little different.

Meet the Artist

Hi! I'm Sarah, the artist, and I'm so happy you found my website and I hope you're enjoying my designs as much as I love creating them! Every piece is handcrafted in my home studio using the skills I've picked up through my metalsmithing education and from experimenting with new techniques over the last decade. My work is inspired by the world around me. I often escape to the outdoors for clarity and inspiration taking photos of the captivating elements of nature I stumble across.

Beauty is in the details!
